June 16 DCRTA Gathering – Honoring Our Successes

The Dearborn County Retired Teachers Association (DCRTA) celebrated several statewide IRTA honors at their spring meeting on June 16 at Greendale Middle School.

The DCRTA continues to lead the state in volunteer hours completed.

Janet Hart, longtime teacher at Manchester Elementary School, received the coveted AMBA Clock Award for IRTA Area 10 for her superior volunteerism.

Community Service Chairwoman Jo Sloan also honored Associate Members Mark McGranahan and Joe Middendorf who are not retired teachers but rather strong supporters of education and teachers.

Christelle Middendorf, Cherie Rump and Gene Cleary were also honored for their community service.

Also, President Sharon Moder and Ron Nicholson were honored for Outstanding Social Media presence and Outstanding Press Releases respectively.

     As well, Past President Judy Mosier honored longtime member Gerry Barber for her founding of and service to the Sewing Club, a dedicated group of DCRTA members who meet weekly to sew dresses and shorts for underprivileged children around the world, ranging from Africa to South America to the Caribbean and beyond.

DCRTA Gathering April 2026

The Dearborn County Retired Teachers Association (DCRTA) met on Tuesday, April 21st for their first meeting of 2026 where staff from the Dearborn County Recycling Center shared information about their many programs and congratulated the group for its active participation and encouraged members to continue to volunteer to make our community a cleaner, brighter, more progressive and environmentally friendly place.

December 2025 DCRTA Sewing Project Luncheon

The ladies of the DCRTA Sewing Project take off the month of December. They do meet for lunch once to celebrate the season and catch up with everyone. This year we met at Whiskeys in Lawrenceburg for a delicious lunch.

November 2025

The DCRTA Retirement Workshop provided those interested in retirement information a good start. Steve Cotherman from Cotherman Wealth Management provided attendees with practical advice on how to determine their retirement income and some of the choices they will face.

The program will be available in 2026 on the first Thursday of November at the Lawrenceburg Public Library.

DCRTA shines at IRTA’s 60th Representative Assembly

DCRTA was well represented at the IRTA Representative Assembly today. We had many representatives: Etta Bostwick, Betty & Dennis Bourquein, Sandy Bowlus, Lucinda Campbell, Pat Harper, Judy Hagedorn, Christelle Middendorf, Sharon & Tim Moder, Jim Pierce, and Jo Sloan.

We received a Community Service Group Project award for our STEAM days program that the sewing group did last winter at St John’s School.

Three of our members, Pat Harper, Sandy Bowlus and Ron Nicholson received honorable mention awards for volunteerism.

Sharon Moder received the AMBA Clock Award for Area 10 – Outstanding Volunteer.

Our newsletters, Facebook page, website, and press releases received “Outstanding” ratings.


May 2025 Think Smart, Stay Safe Luncheon for volunteers

2025 APRIL GATHERING

The evening entertainment, Lawrenceburg High School Tiger Pizazz dance and vocal group under the leadership of Susan Herrick, wowed the group
with song and dance.

Following the performance Kenneth Ray from AMBA (Association Member Benefits Advisor) in cooperation with IRTA spoke to the group about the benefits that IRTA members have including insurance needs and discounts. (Passport to Savings App) He is available to IRTA members for all insurance and healthcare needs.


October 15 Gathering

Photos from our Oct.15th Gathering. We had a packed evening. A turkey dinner catered by Parkside Market, a wonderful performance by East Central Show Choir, Speakers: Senator Maxwell and IRTA President David Lennen. We also honored our state and local award winners.
