DONATIONS
The Dearborn County Retired Teachers Foundation is a separate entity from the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Association. Established so that contributors can make tax-deductible donations to the Educator Grant/Award, its Board and By-Laws are separate from the Association’s. DCRTA is a 501(c)(4) social organization; DCRTF is a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit.
In 2013 the DCRTF partnered with the Dearborn Community Foundation to set up an endowment for the perpetuation of its Educator Grant/Award. Donations, bequeaths, and memorials will be used to apply for matching funds from the Dearborn Community Foundation. We encourage you to remember our students in your wills or charitable giving.
Information about the Educator Grant/Award program can be seen on the website: Educator Grant/Award. As retired teachers we know that you have devoted your lives to education and wish to see creative and innovative programs in our schools for our local students. Your support of the students and their teachers is much appreciated.

FOUNDATION ENDOWMENT INFORMATION
Giving a gift to the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Foundation upon your death or the death of a loved one helps to establish your legacy as a teacher in the local schools. Although no one wants to really think about death, now is the time to plan for its eventuality.
A tax-deductible charitable donation can be made at any time to the Foundation. However, there are other ways that you might consider gifting the local schools which benefit both you and the Foundation financially.
A donation to the Foundation can be written into your will or trust. You can designate the Foundation as a beneficiary upon your passing or the passing of a beloved family member. The Foundation recognizes you or your loved one in its annual Impact Statement and with notifications to the family.
A gift from your IRA can be beneficial if you are age 70 ½ or older. If you transfer a gift directly from your IRA to the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Foundation, it counts towards your required minimum distribution. This can be done annually and you pay no taxes on your charitable contribution.
Sometimes charitable gift annuities are set up so that the fixed annual payment for a Charitable Gift Annuity can supplement your retirement income for the remainder of your life. Rates for these annuities have recently increased.
A grant from a donor-advised fund can make a real impact on the Foundation. The money from a Donor-Advised Fund comes from funds which have already been set aside for charitable purposes.
A gift of appreciated stock provides important tax benefits if you have held a stock for more than one year. You pay no capital rains tax on the appreciation and the gift qualifies for a charitable deduction.
The Foundation advises you to speak with your tax consultant about ways that you might be able to benefit both yourself and the students in our local schools. These are win-win solutions to make the most of your charitable giving.
